Hmmm…I hope 5 projects is enough

All packed up and ready to go to Lopez Island for the long 4th of July weekend. This will be the first time I’ve had more than 3 days off in 2 years.

It’s our tradition to go to Lopez for the 4th. We just bought 10 acres up there. Yippee!!! But on the 4th we camp in the backyard of my good friend who has a cabin up there. We’ve done it since college and the group keeps on growing. This year there will be 18 people camping together. The real clincher is the SINGLE bathroom we’re going to be sharing. Throw in the 8 month old baby and the 3 dogs that will be up and it’s bound to be a wonderfully chaotic weekend.

If you haven’t been to Lopez for the 4th of July, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Bet you didn’t know they have the largest privately funded fireworks show in the nation. Thank you to Paul Allen (you know…Microsoft guy), who owns a chunk of the island, and Tom Skerrit we get a world class show on our teeny island. It’s amazing…you’re sitting out next to the water and the fireworks look/feel/sound like they’re bursting mere feet from you. Phenomenal.

And since they’ve managed to set (small) fires the last two years – there’s always that show too.

So I’ve got 6 new skeins of sock yarn, 400 yds of lace weight yarn (Elizabeth I scarf) and my in-progress Klaralund. That ought to keep my fingers busy.

Have a wonderful 4th of July everyone. I hope you get to spend your time with loving friends and family, good food and lots and lots of knitting time!
