Partying like it’s 1994

Our niece is spending part of her spring break with us. She’ll be here tonight and will take off next Wednesday. I’m pretty stoked. Mike and I really want to show her life outside of her hometown. She’s smart but undirected right now (what teen isn’t). But her family and friends aren’t going to expose her to the bigger world. So we’re going to take her around and do fun things. Not “let’s go ride a carousel” fun…but “let’s go to Broadway and drink coffee and act bored and morose” fun. You know, the kind of fun she’ll appreciate. I’ll draw the line at taking her into Toys in Babeland…but it was a debate.

So I think West Seattle, Capitol Hill and Downtown are all on the docket. I want to take her to the UW and up to Western Washington U too. Phew. I should dig out my old Doc Martens and try to blend a bit.
